Sinopsis: Juno Macguff (Ellen Page) tiene 16 años y es, según los adultos, más inteligente de lo que le conviene. Ciertamente, es ingeniosa, culta, rápida en las respuestas, observadora y, sobre todo, sarcástica. Ese sarcasmo no es más que una coraza para ocultar sus miedos y dudas. Debido a la relación que mantiene con un compañero de clase, Bleeker (Michael Cera), se queda embarazada. Y, como él se desentiende del problema, Juno toma una decisión que cuenta con la aprobación de su familia: tendrá el niño y lo dará en adopción. Ahora hay que encontrar unos padres adoptivos adecuados. Mark (Jason Bateman) y Vanessa (Jennifer Garner) parecen los padres ideales. Embarazo inesperado.

Juno es una jovencita de dieciséis años. Un día decide tener su primera experiencia sexual con un chico del instituto, el buenazo y tranquilo Paulie. Y Juno queda embarazada. Tras desechar el aborto como alternativa, decide, con la aquiescencia de su padre y de su madrastra, dar al bebé en adopción. Para tal propósito elige a Vanessa y Mark Loring, un matrimonio joven, de buena posición económica, que anhela con ansia tener un hijo.

En su anterior film, Gracias por fumar, Jason Reitman demostró tener mucho seso en la mollera al tratar un tema tan manido como el tabaco y sus peligros, sin caer en simplicidades de cara a la galería y entregar un film original y de irónico humor, crítico ante el cinismo y la hipocresía, muy lejos de la superficialidad. En su segundo film no defrauda la expectativa generada y entrega una historia entrañable y positiva, aunque se expone con un planteamiento muy serio y de indudable actualidad: las relaciones sexuales prematuras entre adolescentes. Con ese aire independiente, alegre y algo gamberro, con lenguaje procaz y situaciones peliagudas pero sin perder nunca el rumbo, Reitman habla del amor y del compromiso, y también del respeto, la libertad, y la responsabilidad ante los propios actos, cosas que nada tienen que ver con las apariencias, como lo demuestra la estupenda familia de Juno. Pero el film es realista y nada moralizante respecto a que algunas situaciones problemáticas no tienen una solución maravillosa ni pueden arreglarse con decisiones tomadas a la ligera.
La galería de personajes creados por la guionista debutante Diablo Cody es muy rica. Y Reitman sabe definirlos en pantalla con una o dos pinceladas certeras, como a los padres de Juno. También hay momentos de comedia bien resueltos, como el varapalo a la enfermera de la ecografía o algunos chispeantes diálogos. Y se agradece de veras que algún "peligroso derrotero" que podría haber dado al traste con la historia esté virtuosamente esquivado, como la amistad entre Juno y Mark. Pero por encima de cualquier aspecto brilla extraordinariamente la interpretación de la menudita Ellen Page, una joven actriz que encandiló en su día en Wilby Wonderful y que luego bordó su terrorífico papel en Hard Candy. Su adolescente Juno es sencillamente magistral, entrañable, malévolamente divertida, de una mordaz inteligencia que te desarma, rápida y nada afectada. Todo un personaje (DeCine21).

AMG Synopsis: When a teenage girl is faced with an unexpected pregnancy, she enlists the aid of her best friend in finding the unborn child a suitable home in this coming-of-age comedy drama from Thank You for Smoking director Jason Reitman. Juno (Ellen Page) may seem wise beyond her years, but after sleeping with classmate Bleeker (Michael Cera), the pregnant teen quickly realizes how little she really knows about life. Thankfully, Juno has been blessed with parents (J.K. Simmons and Allison Janney) who trust their daughter's judgment, and a best friend named Leah (Olivia Thirlby), who's always willing to help out in a pinch. With a little help from Leah, Juno soon comes into contact with Mark (Jason Bateman) and Vanessa (Jennifer Garner) -- an affluent suburban couple who have been unable to conceive a child of their own. Mark and Vanessa seem like they would make great parents, and are eager to adopt Juno's unborn child. Now, as adolescent Juno is faced with a series of very adult decisions, she will draw on the support of her family and friends in order to discover who she truly is, and discover that one bad choice can have a lifetime of consequences.

Bright, original, and ceaselessly entertaining, Juno is the best movie of its kind to come out in years. This is quite a feat considering that the 2000s has seen its share of funny but poignant comedy dramas with lo-fi indie soundtracks, and most of them were really good. So it's not as though Juno is satisfying and enjoyable just because it's a breath of fresh air, or because it shuffles off the text-book constraints of the traditional comedy or drama. Movies like Thumbsucker and Me and You and Everyone We Know have already set the precedent for telling hearteningly unfiltered human stories with honesty and quirkiness. No, what Juno achieves goes above and beyond these exploits. Utilizing the groundwork laid by its predecessors, it handles subject matter that's even slipperier, but it's a hundred times more accessible. Juno strikes an impossibly perfect balance between biting wit, brutal honesty, and unapologetic optimism.
So how does a movie about a high-school junior who gets pregnant by her best friend and decides to give her baby up for adoption come to be this intelligent, sweet, and thoroughly watchable? Maybe it's alchemy. Many great movies reach their particular brand of excellence by way of that intangible chemistry between the actors and filmmakers that makes whatever they come up with so much greater than the sum of its parts. The only problem is that it's hard to gauge just how big of a role chemistry plays in the greatness of a film when all the participants do their jobs perfectly.
Hyperbolic but true: this is the movie these people were born to make. Every actor in Juno is playing relatively within type, but none of them fall back on clichés or rely on habit. Even Michael Cera, who's certainly played the shy kid in Superbad and on Arrested Development, tries something subtly new in Juno as Bleeker, the titular character's best friend and unlikely baby-daddy. At first glance, it might look like Cera's delivering his same old familiar brand of awkwardness, but reading between his lines even the littlest bit reveals that Bleeker's stammering comes from a totally different place. He's organic and distinct and, despite Cera's strange but ever-present charm, very real. This phenomenon comes into play again and again as each actor appears on screen, so that what you end up with for each performer isn't typecasting, but a seamlessly natural fit. It goes indubitably for Ellen Page, who stars as pregnant 16 year old and unwitting iconoclast Juno. Her frequent sarcastic banter evokes Juno's peculiar resilience, but never whitewashes the character -- or the film -- into glib superficiality.
Far from it. Juno is remarkable in just how consistently funny -- belly laugh funny -- it remains from beginning to end, while somehow, at the same time, showing such tremendous heart. And not just sugary, cloying heart but real, center of the human body, life-sustaining heart. This, of course, owes largely to first time screenwriter Diablo Cody, whose script is unendingly delightful without ever betraying the seriousness of what her characters are dealing with. As a result, the finished product combines raw, real life messiness with the kind of creativity and hope that only the best movies can give us.

Yo diría que es una inteligente comedia sobre adolescentes (o dicho al contrario, no es es absoluto una comedia sobre adolescentes descerebrados).
